Our auditions for Spring 2018 are now open!

Audition Requirements:

If you are interested in joining us for the 2017-2018 season, please fill out the audition sign-up here. We take classically-trained orchestral musicians -- strings, winds, brass, and percussion (including piano). Auditions will be held during the first week of classes: January 21st - January 23rd.

Our rehearsal times are on Sundays from 11 AM to 1 PM in Paine Hall.

Audition Content: We will ask you to play 5-10 minutes of contrasting solo music, expressing the range of your capabilities. Pieces do not need to be memorized, but should be a polished representation of your work. We will then do a short “work-through” exercise of a musical passage (we will provide the excerpt at the audition), asking you questions about your approach to the music and how you might guide a rehearsal of the excerpt in a conductorless ensemble. We do not expect perfection! We want to see how you can communicate musical ideas verbally and respond to feedback.

RCE is a conductor-less, student-led orchestra, and we rely on the enthusiasm and creative energy of our members to shape our musical decisions. In your audition, we look forward to getting to know you as a person, and we'll ask you why you're interested in RCE and what you plan to bring to our community.

Again, we are so excited to welcome you, and we look forward to seeing you in a few weeks!
